Litter Pedigree

We have FINALLY settled on the sire for eight-year old Chex’s last breeding. He is Striker, Ann Strathern’s 2-year old Qualified All-Age dog. We met Striker at a MD field trial and truly enjoyed watching him run and then getting to spend time with him. He is a confident, outgoing young male who is quite the schmooze. He is a hard-driving dog but is also a team player, the perfect balance in our opinion.

This boy is also very handsome. He is dark red, similar to his father, with a small amount of white on his chest and excellent length, texture and thickness of coat. He is a large dog by field standards, with excellent substance and bone. He has a handsome head with excellent pigment, a strong muzzle and good breadth of skull. He has full dentition though his bite is between scissor and level. Striker is beautifully balanced with excellent angulation front and rear. He has a strong, level topline with a correct tailset and carriage. He moves beautifully with athleticism and grace. Striker is OFA Excellent with normal elbows, heart, eyes and thyroid. He is prcd-PRA clear.

Chex is an 8-year old bitch that has excelled in agility and hunt tests. She became a Master Agility Champion last year and earned her Companion Dog title her first weekend out in obedience. She has her Senior Hunter title and is training for Master. She is extremely birdy, has an excellent nose and good marking ability. Chex is a strong team player that works well with her handler.

Chex is beautifully built girl with flawless movement. She is perfectly balanced front to rear with a strong, athletic topline and correct tail carriage. moving cleanly coming and going. She has a lovely topline, correct tailset and tail carriage. She has a lovely, intelligent expression with a dark eye, full dentition and a scissors bite. Her coat is blonde, thick with a wave throughout and dries quickly. She easily passed the GRCA’s Certificate of Conformation Assessment on her first attempt.

Chex has PennHIP scores of .30/.30 (meaning her hips are better than 90% of the Golden Retrievers tested ), OFA Good hips, normal elbows, heart and eyes. Since Pigmentary Uveitis has become a significant problem for the breed, to get the best possible information available for breeding decisions, in addition to her 2011 CERF, Chex had her eyes ultrasounded by Dr. John Sapienza and shows no sign of cilliary body cysts. She does not carry either gene for prcd-PRA. Chex is a healthy dog who has no skin allergies, and has not had any ear infections or hot spots.

Chex is the only puppy from our combination of Glenda Manucy’s wonderful, Gunner, HRCH Morninglo’s Top Gun CDX MH NA RN WCX CGC OS and our GRCA Outstanding Dam, Cricket, Gaylan’s First Sgt Cricket JH WCX OD CGC. In this combination of Chex and Striker, we expect pups similar to our Ice Cream litter–fast, focused working dogs with the ability to excel in any performance game. Most will be able to compete at high levels in multiple venues: field trials, hunt tests, agility, obedience, rally or tracking. They will be well built, handsome, stable dogs that will be great team players. There is a risk of pigmentary uveitis in the pups so buyers should be prepared to have their dog’s eyes examined annually for their lifetime.

This litter will be raised nearby with Chex’s owners, Marcy and Jim Burke, using our puppy raising system and brought to Gaylan’s at 6.5 weeks for socialization, development and assessment. They will be placed here at Gaylan’s at 8.5 weeks.
