Khayenne exemplifies the multi-purpose Golden Retriever. She is the fourth Gaylan’s dog to earn the AKC Versatile Companion Dog 2 title, which recognizes a dog’s achievements in three venues: obedience, agility, and tracking. She was also our first Gaylan’s Utility Dog Tracker (UDT).
Khayenne completed her CD in May 2007 with a Dog World Award, and her CDX one month later with three first placements. In February 2008 she finished her UD with two firsts and a High Combined award. That gave her a second Dog World Award, for finishing all three obedience titles in less than a year. She has gone on to win High in Trial and multiple High Combined awards. Khay completed her UDX title in May 2009 and in 2011, earned her Obedience Trial Championship and qualified for the 2012 National Obedience Invitational.
Khay passed her GRCA’s Certificate of Conformation Assessment at the Dallas, TX test under breeder-judges Helen Dorrance, Cindy Partridge and Collette Jaynes. She is a fast and athletic agility dog and has five QQs and nearly 1000 MACH points.
Khayenne passed the TD test on her first try in December 2006. She has also been busy in agility. She appeared on stage as “Toto” in The Wizard of Oz in 2009, and she created the role of “Flyer” in a production of South Pacific in 2010. Khayenne is currently hard at work in preparation to debut a brand-new, never-before-seen canine role for Fiddler on the Roof, set to premier in August 2011. We can’t reveal the details here, but we can say with confidence that audiences will be amazed.
Most recently, Khay earned the AKC’s new Coursing Ability (CA) title in June 2011 and the Coursing Ability Advanced in Nov 2011. Khay thinks coursing is great fun!
Khay entered the GRCA Agility Hall of Fame in April 2012 when she earned her first quadruple Q (QQQQ) and the GRCA Obedience Hall of Fame in November 2013 when she earned her 6th High in Trial with a 199 1/2!
At 14, Khay continues to amaze. She is doing great, for a dog who “ought” to be blind and lame. She still has decent eyesight, thanks to the drops we’ve been giving her for years. We exercise her intensively daily, either at home or with a rehab therapist. Her knees, hips, and legs are doing great. Her attitude is amazing. Her eyesight and hearing have both declined, but she can still see and hear. She loves life!
